Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library board meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the library at 4:00 p.m.

Friends of the Hancock County Public Library is a membership supported, non-profit organization that raises money through the sale of donated books, DVDs, and CDs. Our Friends group was established in 1979 and since that time has given countless dollars to cover the costs of programs for all ages, summer & winter reading clubs, and music programs.

We invite you to invest in the success of the library with a membership. In addition to becoming a member, you might also wish to donate some of your time. Whether you choose to work during book sales, help with mailing, assist at a special event, or even join the board, Friends can always use a helping hand.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Hancock County Public Library offer gently used books, music, and movies for sale on designated bookshelves in both library locations.

Discount book sales are also held in the Central Library's GBC Community Room quarterly.

Proceeds help fund concerts, children’s events, and summer reading club prizes for the library.

Book Donations

Because of limited space, donations can only be made on specified dates. Donation days normally fall on the first or second Saturday each month. Check our Events Calendar for more information.

Look for bargain books and other media for sale on shelves near the Greenfield entrance, to the left, and near the New Palestine entrance, to the right. Prices range from 50 cents to two dollars.

Proceeds from sales by the Friends of the Hancock County Public Library, a non-profit volunteer group, fund free concerts and children’s events.
