The Hancock County Public Library’s volunteer program is designed to assist personnel, promote library services, and create educational opportunities.

Covered Wagon Volunteer

This group presents a history program to Hancock County Schools about pioneers settling in Indiana. They help students decide what to load in a covered wagon and what to leave behind (September to April).

Collection Assistant

In this position, volunteers are assigned a section in the library to organize, align and put items in order on the shelves (any day during normal library hours).

Circulation Assistant

This position includes shelving material, assisting patrons at the self-check units, and directing patron inquiries to the correct staff member (any day during normal library hours).

Local History Volunteer

Volunteers in our Genealogy Department do various tasks; researching information, operating our microfilm machine, and assisting patrons in our Genealogy/Local History Room (Monday - Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
