Weekly Challenge – September 19th to September 25

May I present your first challenge:

Post-it Note Art : Create your masterpiece on only a post-it note.

Use your own post-it or ask me (Kristen, Teen librarian) for one. Once finished, either give your post-it to me OR post a picture of it on social media with #HCPLWeeklyChallenge.

Remember to come to the office to complete your drawing slip for a chance to win a book!

Kristen, Teen Librarian (aka me) with own post-it

And to get you started, I made my own post-it art.

I will announce drawing winners on Monday, September 26.

Introducing Weekly Challenges!!

I am declaring Weekly Challenges!!!!

What are Weekly Challenges you ask? Each Monday I will present you with a new challenge. You must complete and provide proof of this activity by the following Sunday night. By proof I mean posting a picture of the action or product to Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram with #HCPLWeeklyChallenge or handing me (Kristen, your friendly neighborhood Teen Librarian) the final product.

Now you are wondering why you should even do this. By completing this activity you will receive a prize drawing slip. You will fill out this slip and enter it into a prize drawing. If your slip is drawn, you will get a prize, most likely a book!

On Monday (9/19) I will post your first challenge along with the prize you could win. Get ready!

Little Guardians, Book 3: Tane and the Spirit Dragon

During our YA Author Festival on September 10th, nine authors, including the creators of Little Guardians, Ed Cho and Lee Cherolis, joined us for panels, workshops, hang out sessions, book signings and a trivia contest. Ed and Lee make great trivia judges, in case you were wondering.
Not only did we ask them to tell us about the process of creating Little Guardians, but we also asked them to pull their favorite books from our collection!

After you read our copies of the Little Guardians, check out the creators’ favorites while you wait for their third book to hit our shelves!

What should I read next?

whatWhat should I read now? Have you ever finished the best book ever written and felt like there could not possibly be any books as good as that one. Never fear! You can find a great book to read again.

Our library has a fantastic online resource called Novelist.  All you need to do is type in the title or author of a book that you have read and really enjoyed.  Novelist will give you suggestions based on it and even given you a reason why it is similar to your favorite book.  Novelist lets you browse lists based on Genre, just click the TEEN tab first if you only want to browse teen books.

After you find your next great read, you need to check if we have it available.  If it is checked out, you can put a hold on it.  If we don’t have the book you can request to purchase it or we can try and borrow it from another library for you!

Now that you have found your next great book, HAPPY READING!

~Jenny
