Long Overdue Materials

  1. An overdue notice is mailed or e-mailed to the patron automatically by the library's circulation system when an item is more than one week overdue. A second overdue notice is mailed automatically when an item is more than two weeks overdue.
  2. A final overdue notice stating that the matter is about to be turned over to the library's collection agency is mailed and e-mailed to the patron when an item is a minimum of 30 days overdue.
  3. If there is no response from the patron by the time the item is 45 days overdue, the matter will be turned over to the library's collection agency. At that time, the replacement cost of the item plus the collection agency's fee of $10.00 will be charged to the patron's card. This fee is known as a “Referral Fee.”
  4. If the item is subsequently returned, the patron will be responsible for the accrued fine (not to exceed the cost of the item) plus the collection agency's fee. The replacement cost will then be waived from the patron's card. Patrons who have paid for items reported to the library's collections agency and later find them may keep the items. There will be no refunds or credits issued.
